EXPLOSION BOX - Very Quick & Basic Tutorial

Example of a finished box.  For a better look ... click on pics to enlarge.
Score a 12x12 sheet of cardstock at 4" & 8".  Rotate cardstock a quarter turn and  score again at 4" & 8".

You should end up with nine 4" squares
Next you need to cut out the four corner squares

This is what you will end up with

Fold the sides on the score lines to form your box.  If you want to add a different color to the inside of your box ... repeat the steps above with cardstock of choice and glue the two boxes together.  I find Fabri-Tac adhesive works well when doing this.

For the box lid I cut a 5 1/4" square and score it at a 1/2" all the way around.  Notice the little squares on each of the four corners.  You do not want to cut those squares out, but rather on one side cut up to the 1/2" score line.
Now you can fold on the score lines and glue your little flaps to secure the lid.

You should end up with something like this.  Mine in the photo is not actually glued since it is only for this tutorial.

  2. I just love this cake box but wondered what you used for the base of the cake to make it two tiers and do you leave the top layer unattached so you can turn on the candle?
