CRICUT IMAGINE PROBLEMS - IF YOUR IMAGINE WON'T POWER UP... PLEASE READ

If you go to use your Imagine and it won't power up...check the power supply box on the electrical cord and see if the little green light is on.  If it is not please read this post.

NOTE:  I am not here to bash PC or the Imagine.  I am a very faithful PC supporter and own many of their products.  I have had much success with all, but the Imagine.  The problem I am having creates a potential fire hazard and does have me concerned.  This is nothing against PC and I just hope they stand behind their product as they have in the past (this is my 3rd imagine).

First Imagine Machine - Bought at launch and had for a few months.  Had used maybe a dozen times and all worked great.  Then went to use it and it would not power up.  Checked the electrical cord and saw the light was not on.  Assumed it was a defective cord and got PC to send me another.  The replacement cord would  not power up the machine and the machine began to smell hot like something was burning.  CS agreed it wasn't the cord, but a problem with the machine.  Went through the return process and got a new one on it's way.

Second Imagine - Seemed to work great.  Due to things going on I didn't have much time to craft, but did use it a handful of times.  Then one day I went to use it and there was no power and once again the power supply was not working. Note... both times this happened the machine was plugged into a surge protector.  Yes, I tried different power outlets to no avail.  Called CS and they were very good to work with me and told me I'm not the first one to have this problem.  Did the return process and got the 3rd imagine on the way.

Third Imagine - Once again worked great.  Life still busy and not much time to craft so again it was used only a handful of times.  Also when I am not printing I use one of my other Cricuts to cut... trying to prolong the life of my imagine. :)  Last night I was cleaning my craft room so I know the power supply was working.  Went in there this morning and had no power to the room at all.  Checked the breaker box to our house and found it had tripped.  Reset it then noticed the power supply to the imagine was out.  Machine would not power up once again.  Very concerned if the breaker would not have tripped, what might have happened.

I am really distraught as I have put a lot of money into this and at this point I have nothing but a bunch of cartridges and ink that I can't use. :(  Nothing against PC ...they just have some defects they need to figure out.  Customer service has been good up to now, so hopefully they will continue to stand behind their product.  If you are having similar issues and think it's the power cord...possibly it's the machine causing the cord to go out?

  1. I'm sure that they will stand behind it! I'm also on my third imagine, however they were for all different reasons and never because it wouldn't power on. They replaced it everytime. I've also had problems with my gypsy and a few carts. They stepped up to the plate each and everytime! This is the reason that I'm sticking with them! Good luck, I know it's hard you'll have to wait til Monday to contact them!

  4. I'm on my 2cd Imagine, I returned the first one to Wal-mart. I had bought it at the After Thanksgiving sale. But when I turned it on it wouldn't do anything. Now I am having the same problems at cricutalltime when I just want to cut something it acts like it is going to do it then it just shuts itself off and restarts. Really annoying. I reaaallllyyy wanted this to work right, because I love Provo Craft machines, and this one seemed like it would be really awesome. Hopefully they can help me out too.

    1. I'm not trying to scare you and I apologize if I have. I just want people to be aware so they better protect themselves.

I think it would be a good idea to keep it unplugged when not in use. My reasoning for keeping mine plugged in is... I want to know of any problem now while PC will stand behind it. However, after this incident and knowing this happened while we were sleeping, I will probably keep it unplugged.

I will contact CS in the morning and will be sure to let everyone know what I find out. Maybe by now they have discovered the cause of this problem?

  6. I love my Cricut but it does seem PC just throws their new products out on the market and lets the customers figure out how to use them and all the bugs.

  7. this is something to consider if anyone is thinking about investing in the imagine...since so many people are on thier 2nd or 3th machine..there is a defective part that needs looking into....not bashing PC. but if we spend so much money on their products..we should NOT have to take extra steps to keep our homes protected....

  8. I just want to pipe in and say I bought my imagine on HSN when it first aired and never had one bit of trouble with it (knock on wood) I just wanted everyone to know that not every machine is defective. I use mine almost everyday.

  9. I am on my second Imagine. My first one would not update. CS has always been really good to me. I bought the art philosophy cartridge and it would work in my original expression but not in my expression 2 or imagine. I called PC and they sent my a new one right away and I got to keep my old one. I gave it to a friend that only has the original expression! I LOVE my imagine. Its by far my favorite machine. I haven't had any problems with my 2nd one but I will keep it unplugged from now on.

  10. Wow.... I have the Imagine, yet no problems with it from the BF sales '11. I keep mine plugged into the surge protector but when I am not crafting the surge protector is turned off. I surely hope they get their ducks in a row before releasing new products.
    Thanks for the info!

  11. WOW! So glad I did not buy one of these...looking at how many comments there are on just your blog alone makes me uneasy. Not just the fire hazard, but the added stress of having to deal with a faulty machine over and over again. I have very little time to craft, and when I do I don't want it to be filled with trouble. So sorry all of you have had so many issues. I definitely think it's time for PC to up their quality control.

  12. I bought one, this is my first cricut, wanted the expression but thought this one would be great. So far I havent been able to use it at all, being my first I went and spent over $100.00 in new cartridges, because I was gonna make valentines cards, and birthday invitations, I work full time, so only time to craft is nights and weekends. I called company and told them my imagine would not sync and it wouldnt pull mat in machine. They had me re download the sync and try again, it has never updated and still wont pull mat through. I dont know what to do and at this point I am out alot of money and time, with a machine that wont work. Any advise?

    1. I would call customer service and get them to replace it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund if you can. Then think about buying the Expression. I have 3 other Cricut machines and have had good luck with all of them. Hope this helps.

  13. I too have had nothing but problems with my Imagine...Its too late to return it to HSN, but how can PC afford to keep replacing all the defective Imagines? If this keeps up I'm going to have oodles of cords.LOL thankfully PC will have a 1yr warranty on my replacement machine so if it keeps happening I'll be set for ever! Hahaha CS said that the machine is real sensitive and if it gets bumped to hard during shipping it can break..(she said its bad for such a heavy machine, I agree!!) Provo Craft could save alot of money if they just buy the machine back and let me purchase something else..Oh well, in the mean time I'll become good friends with FEDEX..

  14. I too have had nothing but problems with my Imagine. I'm on my second one as I just got it out after about 10 months because I didn't want to deal with it. Keeps shutting off and like before when I called they said I have to update it. Well I just did and it still shuts off. Three hours and only cut 6 things. UGH!

  17. My first Imagine would not update and they sent me a second one. I don't thing PC thought the imagine through and I don't they don't support it anymore. I am sad. I love My cricut and I have the Expression 2 and the imagine and the Explore. I hope this imagine keeps working. They are not cheap and I can't buy another. I have learned to wait with a product until it is tested before I jump..
